Wisdom @ Work: The Making of a Modern Elder by Chip Conley
What can I say about Chip Conley? I was introduced to him by a dear friend, as my wife and I were in one of the first cohorts at his Modern Elder Academy.
We went to his retreat in Baja wanting to recharge, meet some new people and maybe learn a few things. Little did I know how much wisdom Chip would share on what it means to be a Modern Elder in the workplace.
I was hungry for the perspective he delivers in his book. It brought some clarity on what I was experiencing myself, as well as what I’m working on with my clients.
We’re facing big questions. How do we continue to learn, grow, engage and contribute as we progress in the workplace? This book takes the stigma out of the word elder and how it’s defined in today’s society.
Chip defines the Modern Elder as someone who exhibits wisdom in the form of:
- Good judgment
- Unvarnished insight
- Emotional intelligence
- Holistic thinking
- Good stewardship
In reading this book, it became abundantly clear that we all have many gifts to contribute in our community and in the workplace, even as we progress in life.
